Welcome Back to My Latest Manga Journey

Writer: Dione RobinsonDione Robinson

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another blog post about my manga journey. I have some incredible news to share—I finally completed my latest manga, Love From Al Khadhimiya! Not only that, but it is officially available for everyone to read! This has been such an exciting and fulfilling experience, and I can't wait to dive into all the details of what I've learned, what’s next, and where my journey is headed.

The Experience of Creating Love From Al Khadhimiya

Boy, I tell you, it has been a rollercoaster of a month working on my second manga. Love From Al Khadhimiya was a deeply personal and challenging project, but it has also been one of the most rewarding creative endeavors I’ve taken on so far. Through the process of creating this manga, I honed my storytelling, refined my artwork, and learned valuable lessons that I will carry into my future projects.

One of the most exciting aspects of working on this manga was pushing myself artistically and creatively. Every panel, every character expression, and every background detail was an opportunity for growth. I found myself experimenting with new techniques and discovering ways to make my art more dynamic and engaging. The journey was not without its struggles, but looking at the final product, I can confidently say it was all worth it.

Mastering New Tools and Software

One of the biggest changes in my workflow has been integrating new software into my creative process. I have almost fully transitioned to using Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo, which are fantastic alternatives to Adobe’s services. These programs have proven to be powerful tools for my manga creation, and I’m loving the level of control and flexibility they provide.

Leaving Adobe was a big decision, but I wanted to explore new options that better suited my needs. Affinity’s suite of programs has been a game-changer for me. They offer excellent vector and raster capabilities, making them perfect for creating crisp, high-quality manga pages. Additionally, I have been using GIMP to create screentones and backgrounds, which has significantly improved my efficiency and artistic expression. These tools have allowed me to refine my work while maintaining an effective workflow.

Learning new software always comes with a learning curve, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. The process of adapting to these programs has made me a more versatile artist, and I’m excited to see how they continue to enhance my future projects.

What’s Next for My Manga Journey?

With Love From Al Khadhimiya completed, I’m already looking ahead to my next steps. There are so many creative ideas I want to explore, and I’m eager to continue pushing my skills and storytelling abilities. Here are some of the things I’ll be focusing on in the coming months:

Returning to Yonkoma (Four-Panel Manga)

One of my main goals moving forward is to refine certain aspects of my manga creation process, and I believe returning to Yonkoma (four-panel manga) will help me achieve that. Yonkoma is an excellent format for sharpening comedic timing, pacing, and concise storytelling. Since these short manga strips require strong punchlines and clear visual storytelling, they provide a great opportunity to refine my skills in a focused way.

By working on Yonkoma manga, I’ll be able to improve my ability to tell engaging stories in a short amount of space. This will be incredibly useful for future projects, especially when it comes to perfecting panel composition, character expressions, and overall flow.

Creating Five-Page Manga Stories

While Yonkoma will be a key part of my practice, I also want to start making at least five-page manga stories to expand my skills further. These slightly longer manga pieces will allow me to experiment with more complex storytelling while keeping the projects manageable. Working on shorter manga stories will help me develop better pacing, refine my ability to build tension and emotion, and explore different genres without committing to a full-length one-shot right away.

I love the challenge of balancing character development and plot progression within a limited page count. It forces me to think critically about what’s essential to the story and how to make every panel count.

And who knows? I might even take these short manga pieces and turn them into full-fledged series down the line!

Expanding My Artistic Horizons

Another major focus for me moving forward is practicing color artwork. While I primarily work in black and white for my manga projects, I want to enhance my skills in full-color illustrations. Digital painting is an entirely different beast, and mastering color composition, lighting, and shading will be a valuable asset for my overall growth as an artist.

Color artwork will also be beneficial for promotional material, cover designs, and potential side projects. By experimenting with different color palettes and techniques, I’ll be able to bring more vibrancy and depth to my illustrations. Who knows? I might even start incorporating color into certain manga projects in the future.

Final Thoughts

This has been such an amazing journey, and I’m grateful for all the support and encouragement I’ve received along the way. Completing Love From Al Khadhimiya is a huge milestone, but it’s only the beginning. There are so many exciting projects ahead, and I can’t wait to keep pushing my creative boundaries.

If you’ve been following my manga journey, thank you for being a part of it! I appreciate every reader, every comment, and every bit of feedback. As I move forward, I’ll continue to share my progress, challenges, and victories.

So, stay tuned for more updates, new manga, and, of course, plenty of creative adventures ahead!

Until next time, happy reading and creating!
